FM LOGISTIC AND NG CONCEPT MAKE A JOINT COMMITMENT FOR THE REDUCTION OF ENERGY USE BY SIGNING THE ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL EFFICIENCY CHARTER FOR THE TERTIARY ACTIVITY PARK

France

Known as a leading international player in the warehousing, transport and packaging industries, FM Logistic signed the Energy and Environmental Efficiency Charter for the tertiary activity park, on Tuesday 4 June 2019, in the presence of Jérôme GATIER, Sustainable Building Plan Manager, on its Escrennes site. With this commitment, FM Logistic reiterates its wish to have ever more effective platforms, combining energy efficiency, environmental compliance and improving the well-being of its employees.  As is the case with the newly built Escrennes platform, which has the “NF HQETM for Tertiary Buildings” certification, level Excellent, and which was designed by an FM Logistic Group company called NG Concept, the new platforms combine the highest standards in terms of sustainable construction, and are now working towards the “Sustainable Building HQE” certification.

A PROACTIVE COMMITMENT FOR A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN THE ENERGY USE OF A BUILDING

The building industry represents around 45% of the energy use of the country, therefore is the most energy intensive economic sector, and produces almost a quarter of the national greenhouse gas emissions.  The tertiary sector represents nearly a third of the consumption for only a quarter of built-up surfaces on the park.  With that in mind, the Sustainable Building Plan has set up a proactive commitment charter for energy and environmental efficiency for public and private tertiary buildings.  Its purpose is to organise voluntary and coordinated mobilising, by suggesting players start renovating their buildings without delay.  The aim is to improve the energy and environmental efficiency of the buildings, the well-being of the users of the premises, and the economical activity for the building and real-estate field.

FM Logistic and NG Concept thus become the 132th and 133rd signing party, respectively.

NG CONCEPT, DESIGNER AND BUILDER OF PLATFORMS FIRMLY FOCUSED ON CSR

NG Concept is a company from the FM Logistic Group, and specialises in the engineering of the design and construction of logistics platforms on an international scale.  Regarded as a committed constructor for eco-sustainable and innovative projects, with strong CSR ambition, NG Concept develops tailor-made solutions, and end-to-end solutions.

Each project imagined by NG Concept is part of a responsible approach to sustainable development and is built around three important aspects: decreasing the carbon footprint, building durability, and the quality of the living and working spaces.

These three elements cover a number of actions and tools, implemented in order to enable a drastic reduction of the carbon footprint for the building:

  • Green work site: preventing pollution, recycling the work site waste ;
  • Energy savings: From -20 to -50% , highly efficient buildings, on-site photovoltaics, 100% LED lighting... ;
  • Drinking water savings: use of rain water, more than 50% savings on drinking water… ;
  • Pollutant control: choosing low-polluting materials, efficient ventilation… ;
  • User comfort: thermal, visual, and acoustic comfort, leisure areas… ;
  • Modular site: warehouses which can accommodate different categories of classified products  ;
  • Logistics excellence: driver facilities, building adaptation to the process, information on working conditions… ;
  • Sustainable mobility: car-pooling, bicycle shelter and showers, charging stations for electric vehicles.

The energy and environmental efficiency charter which was signed today on the Escrennes site therefore highlights the ongoing CSR commitment of NG Concept.

FM LOGISTIC, COMMITTED TO A MORE RESPONSIBLE SUPPLY CHAIN

FM Logistic is an international and independent family business, which has based its development on concepts of durability and performance.  Sustainable development is therefore a strategic priority for FM Logistic, a part of the “Ambition 2022” strategic plan.  FM Logistic has a vision to “create solutions for a supply chain which improves living conditions” and a mission to “together, create sustainable ecosystems.” In practical terms, the CSR strategy and commitment of FM Logistic are based on three founding concepts:

  • Taking care of employees

FM Logistic is committed to the well-being of its employees and puts all the necessary means into action in order to prevent occupational risks and reduce work-related accidents as much as possible.  The company works with an ergonomist dedicated to new ways to make physical work easier, as well as decreasing MSDs.  It also believes in giving everyone a chance, employs and assists people with disabilities and offers all its employees stimulating career streams, in order to foster internal promotion.

  • Improving the environmental impact of its activities

FM Logistic works daily to improve the environmental impact of its activities: waste management, reducing CO2 emissions, building environmentally-friendly platforms, thanks to the collaboration with NG Concept.  FM Logistic is aiming for net “zero emission” logistic platforms for 2030.  The aims and results are defined and reviewed, wherever FM Logistic operates, in keeping with the environmental commitments of the group and and the expectations of the stakeholders. FM Logistic has just announced a plan to pilot the use of REff, a new tool designed by scientists at the Fraunhofer IML to measure greenhouse gas emissions from logistics sites. This initiative aims to support the international standardisation of carbon emissions measurements from logistics buildings.

  • Developing services for a sustainable supply chain

FM Logistic offers sustainable solutions to meet the customer’s needs, notably with Citylogin, a sustainable urban logistics offer, which combines flow pooling, delivery by clean-vehicles and regional platforms.  For its co-packing activity, FM Logistic is committed to reducing the consumption of raw materials, in order to preserve resources as best as possible.

AN EXAMPLE OF THIS: ESCRENNES, A PLATFORM WITH EXCELLENT ENVIRONMENTAL PERFORMANCE

With the new Escrennes platform, NG CONCEPT is delivering a building which combines the major principles of sustainable development and an optimised work environment.  The Escrennes site combines the highest standards of sustainable building, and has obtained the NF HQE for Tertiary Buildings, level Excellent, for the design phase.

In terms of energy savings, the platform will be fitted with a surface of 1 500 m² of photovoltaic panels set up on the building roof, thus covering most of the site’s needs.  The fronts, roofs and ground floors of the warehouse and offices have enhanced thermal insulation, which contributes to the building’s inertia.  The building is also equipped with balanced ventilation and a heat pump for the office heating systems.  As for lighting, all the interior and exterior areas, including parking lots, are entirely fitted with LEDs, with motion and brightness detectors.

In terms of resource preservation, the site is equipped with a rain water collection system, for the watering, toilet flushing and floor cleaning activities.  This system was set up in the first phase of construction, and covers 50% of the site’s needs as a whole, thanks to its 20m3 tank.  State-of-the-art taps, showers and toilets have been fitted in order to save up to 51% domestic drinking water, compared to a conventional system.  Furthermore, the waste water is treated directly on site through a pond planted with reeds and other filtering plants.  This water, clear and odourless, is then directed  to the site’s storm drain system.

The landscape integration has been optimised.  The site was planted with local, non-invasive and non-allergenic plant species.

Lastly, the problems associated with waste treatment, and especially large quantities of cardboard boxes have been taken into account.  A waste collection area was created in order to simplify selectively sorting waste operations.

As was the case with the latest sites, which have all been certified with the NF HQE™ Tertiary Buildings norm, the Escrennes site provides optimal working conditions for the next decades.  By developing a framework combining the best of comfort and security in the logistics field, FM Logistic is proving that the human aspect is at the heart of its priorities.

We commend FM Logistic’s long-time implication with Certivéa, for logistics platforms with sustainable practices, and its recent commitment to attain even higher levels of efficiency for all its projects, with the HQE Sustainable Building certification”. Patrick Nossent – President of Certivéa.
